NEW MEMBER REFERENCE PAGE Tools and Applications (Available with full memberships; limited memberships may not include all of these tools and applications) Audio / Video Postcards: Audio / Video Postcards are a fun and unique way to send (and receive!) a message, information, invitation, greeting, birthday wish, congratulations, or anything you desire. These can be easily made by any member of the Interview and Interrogation Group, and you can send them to anyone with an e-mail address (or groups of people up to 25), and they do not have to be part of our group. You can use AUDIO, where your typed message is supplemented with an audible message from you, or you can use VIDEO where your typed message is supplemented by a video of you speaking. These can be created for the group and posted on the site, or they can be kept private between you and the receiver. To see an example of an Audio Postcard, click here: http://www.igroops.com/igroops/lies/postcard/EUYHQEYAXF.html As a new member (or any member who has not done so), take a couple minutes and create an Audio or Video Postcard and send an introduction to the group about yourself. Type a brief bio on the card and supplement it with an Audio or Video message... You can send it to all group members by e-mailing it to lies@igroops.com or just leave it in the Available Audio / Video Postcards for members to view (remember to click " never" as the expiration of the postcard)
Audio /Video Presentations: This application is available to members of our group, and it is like an "online PowerPoint" presentation. They are easy to develop and you can pick the background image and music if desired, then type text and even use Audio to speak to supplement your message. To see a simple example of an Audio / Video Presentation click here: http://www.igroops.com/igroops/lies/av/AP8CYMGEOT/001.html As a group member, you can develop new presentations frame by frame, or if you have an existing PowerPoint presentation, you can cut-&-paste the slides into the frames and supplement with audio to explain each slide, as you might in a live presentation.
Blogs / Podcasts: As a full member of the Interview and Interrogation Group you can start your own Blog. As most of you know, a Blog is a web-log of postings, thoughts, comments and information from the owner of the Blog. Other members can comment on the postings as well. As the owner, you can use text, cut & paste articles, use audio postings and even video postings to really get out your message. A Podcast is like an "Internet radio show" and people can subscribe to the feed and get updates as they come out. When they are regularly scheduled, some podcasts go live and have callers call in and comment on the topic of discussion. Each full member of the Interview and Interrogation Group can start, run and manage their own Blog; Share your thoughts, ideas, comments and insights with the power of text, audio and video!
Calendar: The group calendar for the Interview and Interrogation Group is designed to keep members of our group aware of upcoming events such as conferences, relevant television shows of interest to the group, web seminars through our group or through other sources, online discussions through the Interview and Interrogation Group, etc. The great thing with our calendar is that you can customize it to send you a "reminder" of the event through e-mail or SMS to your mobile device to whatever time you would like (2 days before the event, 1 day, 6 hours, 2 hours, 15 minutes...it's very flexible and user friendly!)
Communication System: The Communication System is the heart of the groups communication and discussions. There are two sections (described below), the Discussion Boards and Private Messaging. The Discussion Boards are open and members can see and comment on them, whereas the Private Messages are simply that, private, between the sender and the receiver. Even the administration cannot view to ensure privacy.
Discussion Boards: Here members can start new topics, post information on new topics, comment on old topics, and "debate" points of view. This is where the international flavor of our group is so valuable, since we can learn the thoughts, insights and practices of professionals from around the world and enhance our knowledge and understanding, and develop a greater depth of knowledge of the subject matter. As a new member, review the Discussion Boards for previous uploads and discussions, and voice your thoughts on the subjects!
Private Messaging: If you want to have private communication with an individual you can click the Private Messaging and have a discussion between the two of you. Only the sender and receiver can view the private messages, not even the administration can view them to ensure that the discussions are truly private. You can also use audio and video in your messages for a more personal message!
File Sharing: Since all members of the Interview and Interrogation Group share a common interest, we can ALL help the members of our group by sharing information in the File Sharing application. There is so much content and information available on relevant subjects which could be a valuable resource to our members; research articles, e-books, dissertations, laboratory studies, field studies, presentations, etc. As a new member, check the File Sharing application to review and download the available documents. I strongly encourage ALL members to UPLOAD and SHARE any information and documents which could be valuable and a resource for other members of our group.
Member Webpages: In addition to each member having your own Blog, as a member you can also create your own webpage. Add text, photos, links, etc. Be as creative and as informative as you wish.
Photo Gallery: Photos can be easily shared by group members in the Photo Gallery. They are easy to upload and edit with text, and you can view them individually or click on the link and have them scroll as a slide show! Photos can be fun and personal, or share photos from conferences.
Reviews: The Review Section is a resource for members to POST information about virtually anything and comment on it, provide your personal opinion or recommendation or share advice to help other members make good decisions. Review books, conferences, periodicals, training sessions, etc. If you attended some valuable training, share it here...if you read a book which added value to your work...let other members know so they too can benefit. Add, review, comment...
Teleconferencing: The Interview and Interrogation Group administration has the ability to set up teleconferences, where people outside of our group can call in and participate in LIVE conferences. The system can accommodate up to 150 callers! Also, the teleconferencing is used in part for the Interrogation Station Podcast.
Video / MP3 Gallery: As with file sharing, the Video / MP3 Gallery is a resource of information for our members. You can upload MP3 files, videos, and even use connect with common video sites such as You Tube (by linking to the embedded code...very simple once you do it!) right through our own website. As a new member, check out the available videos and MP3's, and as always, EVERY member should make an effort to populate this area with relevant content that all members of the group can learn and benefit form the information.
Live Broadcaster: This is useful and unique feature to assist with live online training within the Interview and Interrogation Group. It provides the ability to conduct LIVE training sessions without the need for flash-based operations, and can make it easier for members to attend the sessions, especially with wireless connections. This in one of the features built into the Interview and Interrogation Group that gives us the ability to communicate with other members LIVE. The Interview and Interrogation Group will be having LIVE online group discussions and training sessions, which will be placed in the group calendar.
Web Video Chat: Another powerful and unique feature of the Interview and Interrogation Group is the Web VIDEO Chat, which enables two or more members to communicate LIVE through text, audio and VIDEO. We will be organizing LIVE online conferences through the Live Broadcaster and Web Video Chat. Again, no long distance fees, no special software, just a microphone (or the built in one on many computers) and a basic web cam.
Tips to get members started (For new members or ANY member to get more involved in the group) - Start with an introduction to the group through an "Audio / Video Postcard". Click on the Audio / Video Postcard link on the left of the homepage, or click here: http://www.igroops.com/igroops/lies/postcard to go directly there. Once there, click "create/edit postcards" and another page will open, then click "create new" and you will be brought to the page where you create your postcard. Use text as well as audio and/or video to see how easy it is. (I found the video works best if I don't use a wireless connection). You will see the options available, it is very intuitive and flexible.
- Start your OWN BLOG. As the owner, you can use text, audio and video in your blog. Click the link on the left in the homepage, or click here: http://www.igroops.com/igroops/lies/blog Once you are there, click the "create new blog" link and you can name your blog as your NAME, or pick an appropriate name, and fill in the blanks. Again, it is easy and intuitive, and even easier to update once you start one!
- Upload information. Very simply, we join groups such as this out of a common bond and interest, and by doing so we have the ability to learn from each other, on an international basis, and this is done through communication and sharing of ideas and information. Use the file sharing application and the MP3/Video files, etc to share relevant information with our members.
Website Overview When you log into our website homepage (http://www.lies.igroops.com) you may have to enter your name and password (if you didn't log out on your last visit), since this is a "members only" website. Also, many members only groups such as Google, Yahoo, etc. exist through cluttering up the website and e-mails with advertisements and outside links. We want to maintain a professional website and we will not inundate our members with unnecessary links and banners. The center/top of our homepage is our welcome message and general overview of our group. If you are NOT A MEMBER, or IF YOU ARE A MEMBER BUT YOU ARE NOT LOGGED IN, the "welcome message" will be different than if you ARE a member and you ARE LOGGED IN. Below that in the center/bottom are selected articles from Blog postings or podcasts which will be updated frequently. You will only see the first few lines of the article and when you click on the link "read more" it will bring you to the full article. However, if you are not logged in, you will still see the first few lines, but when you click "read more" you will be denied until you log in. This is what non-members initially see so they get a taste of what some of the group content is. Staying on the center and going to the very bottom, you will see the calendar and and occasional poll. Any upcoming events will be highlighted and you can click on them to get more information. From there you can customize it to send you a reminder of the event, which we discussed above. Click on the "go to calendar link" to go to the calendar application (the same as if you clicked the link on the left of the homepage, which will be described below). On the upper left there is a "site search" field. Enter information you are looking for and it will search our entire site for it! Tight below that is a listing of "members currently online". This is Interview and Interrogation Group members, and you can click on their name and send a private message asking to meet in a audio/video chat if you like. Also on the homepage, in the upper left you will see a box titled "information" which will say either Wes is online or offline. This is mostly for non-members who may be looking for information about the group. If I am online, you can type directly in the box and send me an instant message through Meebo...or just say "hi" ). Below the Meebo "information" box are links to featured links, including our main website for LIES Linguistic Interrogation Expert Services and a link to the International Conference on Investigative Interviewing. Still on the main page on the left you will see the "Featured Applications" which are the links to all the applications and tools you have available as a member (detailed in great length above!). Just click on the link you want and you will be brought to that application. On the homepage at the bottom left there are "featured postcards" and "featured blogs". The featured postcard is an invitation for non members to join our group, and the featured Blog is informational for members as it contains new additions, improvements, and updates to our website. Also included in the featured Blog is the "Interrogation Station", which also has an orange feed you can click to subscribe to the feed. This is a public blog. Still on the homepage (lots of info!) in the upper right, there is a box for people to sign up for our free newsletter; "Truthfully Speaking". The newsletter is generally for non-members because members have access to the same information in the Communication Section in the Discussion Forums where you will see the category "Truthfully Speaking Newsletter". Below the newsletter subscription box on the right side of the homepage there is a digest of activity which are listings of new postings to virtually any of the applications in the Interview and Interrogation Group. You can review them and if something is new since you last checked, which should be reflected by a yellow sun next to it, click on the link and it will bring you directly there! Finally, on the very top of the page on the bar, there are some icons. If you hover your mouse over them you will see their function such as "home", "edit" your profile, "log in/out", and an "envelop" which is an easy way to invite other people to join us in our group. As you know, the more people we get involved with our group, and the more active our current members are, the more ALL members will learn and grow! Enjoy the website, share your thoughts and information with others and add to the resources for our members, and stay active with the group! Talk with you soon!
