Aaaahhh, Spring!
Friday, April 25th @ 9:43 AM
Spring is here! For those of you who live in the Midwest or the east coast, you can easily relate to this hunger for Spring that many of us are feeling. Today was a beautiful day in Ohio! A sunny day with blue skies and lots of spring flowers. Tomorrow promises to be near 70 degrees!
I have talked with many women lately who have shared that they feel like they actually come alive again in the Spring. After months of cold temps, early darkness, hunched shoulders, and wet boots, they are starting to feel hopeful and excited and AWAKE again! There is a different energy in the spring. One of anticipation and new beginnings.
I also feel super aware in the spring. Every day there is something new to notice. Flowers blooming, birds returning, trees budding, green grass, bugs coming out of hiding – everywhere you look there are promises of what is to come. Signs of what is on its way to you.
I think Spring is a great time to focus on “Bee”ing Aware (which is one of the first steps of the BuzZen life cycle.) You know so much of the time, it is easy to allow ourselves to go unconscious to the things that are going on around us. We get so busy, or stressed, or distracted that we can miss a whole season (or seasons!) living in a state of numbness where we don’t truly feel, really notice, or actually experience anything. When we become so consumed with worry about things that have happened in the past or with fears and anxieties about what we think might/could/should happen in the future, we completely miss the present moment.
As we are reminded to create a peaceful space free from fears (past or present), we can discover the possibility of real power that comes only from being in the present moment. Anytime we are fully aware and we fully appreciate exactly what is going on right now, we open ourselves to true enjoyment of the only real life there is – the one that is going on in this moment.
Take a moment to think about where you can become more mindful this week. What have you been asleep to that you can now turn your focus toward?
- Have you been out of balance with your family?
- Missing the gentle wonder and excited curiosity of your children or grandchildren?
- Have you checked in with your husband or noticed the great way he shows up to support you and contribute to your household?
- How about the quiet dependability of your administrative assistant or the validation of your favorite co-worker?
- Who or what needs your attention now that you are coming out of your self-imposed “hibernation?”
Become the objective observer in your life this week and pay attention to the miracles that are happening around you every day. As you remember to tune in, consider what may need a little “spring cleaning.” Get present to that clutter of worry and fear that has been hanging around the edges of your mind. Throw away those old patterns and behaviors that aren’t serving you anymore. Air out your stale excuses and judgments and open the windows of your mind for some refreshing new insights and inspirations.
Spring time can come to you anytime you choose it! Bee aware of the joy and wonder that is possible in your own life. Give yourself permission to experience your life in full wakefulness. Be an alert participant in the ongoing miracle that is your life!
