Welcome to Codiac Soccer Moncton

The game of Soccer in Moncton is in good hands. Although, as a sport, soccer in this community has a long way to go to reach the level of development and prestige that it has attained in other communities in Canada and around the world, we do see a level of maturity evolving and a growing appreciation for the game. The game remains a family affair and the good news is that the spectators are learning the rules and developing an appreciation for the skill required to play the game.

As more and more of our young athletes are now playing soccer year round we cannot help but see an improvement in the level of competition. The opportunities are now there for growth and we expect to see more and more competition for positions on our provincial teams. We continue to invest in our coaches by offering them opportunities to upgrade their credentials which will benefit them individually but more importantly the game as a whole.

Do you think we spend enough time practicing?

No I don't believe that the House League players practice enough or play enough. They should play the full hour and practice on a seperate day for 1 - 1 1/2 hour. Developing our players is very important.

i agree about the practices, new season and with only 2 days to practice as a team, the team played scrimmages both days, kids need to practice if they want to learn the game and not just chase a ball around a field

Here are a couple of other options 1)increase time on game night to allow for more practice. Perhaps schedule for 6 to 7:15 for first groups, and then 7:15 to 8:30 (instead of 6-7&7-8). It makes it a little late for the younger ones though. 2)drop-in practice sessions on alternate nights focused strictly on skills development. Team affiliation would not be relevant (so regular coaches not needed). This would allow players who want to learn more to benefit from skills development. I prefer those options to adding an extra night, as it is hard to find coaches for all the teams, and an extra night might further discourage people from volunteering. Also, some kids are really there "just for fun", and I like that. I wouldn't want to discourage those players by increasing their commitment to 3 nights per week. They might also choose to just show up 2 nights a week, but then teams might be stuck with not enough players to play more than now.

Having been a coach in this association for the past 4 years, I can state for a fact that we do not practice enough. 2 practices at the beginning of the year and that's it. If you want to develop young players, you need to provide more skil building sessions. I would suggest that the schedule be done as such as to allow for 1 practice for every 3-4 played or as someone else mentioned, extended the times and allows us to practice. It seems that this years, the ref want to start the games right away, not giving us anytime to practice.
