Hi there!
I've been a part of Toastmasters for 2 1/2 years now, just wrapped up a year and 1/2 as VP Education at the Lexington Club, and am currently at the end of the Honeymoon period as Club President, as September approaches. We had another stellar year last year, achieving Presidential Distinguished status with several Advanced Toastmaster awards, a couple 'old school' Competent Leader awards and a plethora of Competent Communicators.
(We also have a strong history of attending TLIs, which never hurts in getting the club off the ground in acquiring points!)
Now comes the tough(?) work of pulling off another strong performance this year - finding those club members who are within striking distance of their next award, and encouraging them to get going on it. This is not a light task, as we're already booked for speeches at our 'standard' meetings for the next two months!
Thankfully, we've instituted a back-up plan of quarterly 'Speak-Out' events, an evening session of speeches and table topics that helps ease the pressure of an actively speaking club. The speech contests are also good that way, although we do schedule those during our regular meeting times. But those are good for getting in up to 5 speeches in place of our usual 2.
Anyhow, I thought that I'd put this out there, and post about how things are going in the club this year.
How are things going in yours?
