 Bless Those who Curse You

The story is told that General Robert E. Lee was asked by Confederate President Jefferson Davis to give his opinion about a certain officer. Lee gave the officer a glowing report.

One of the officers in attendance was greatly astonished by his works and said to Lee, “General, do you not know that the man of whom you speak so highly to the president is one of your bitterest enemies, and misses no opportunity to malign you?”

“Yes”, said Lee, “ but the president asked my opinion of him; he did not ask for his opinion of me.”

When we speak well of our enemies, we are doing three things: First, we increase our own value. We show that we are able to rise above cheap criticism and bestow costly praise on another.

Second, we diffusve our enemy's criticism. Any person hearing both our praise of an enemy and our enemy's disdain for us is likely to conclude that we are nothing like we have been described!

Third, we reveal to others the we are diligent investigators. It takes an effort to find something good to say about someone who hates you; it takes a little effort or intelligence to respond with hate or hurtful ridicule.

The truth will always reveal itself – God will see to it!

In taking revenge a man is but even with his enemy; but in passing it over, he is superior.

A false witness will not go unpunished, and he who speaks lies shall perish. Proverbs 19:9

Am I willing to spend time investigating the Good things about an enemy?

Adriana aka Buzzy's thoughts: Why Yes I am! I love to investigate things, people, places, foods, dialects, almost everything. So much interests me. I am a woman of many colors. I like to investigate things for the good of God's purposes not the harm to others space. I research many, many, many things. I have discovered you do not knows people's hurts or the make up of who they are, or the pain clouded by their dark character unless you have walked , seen, heard or read the mile in their shoes.
