The Wounds of Jesus (John 20:19-29)

"Then he said to Thomas, "Put your finger here, and look at my hands. Take your hand, and put it into my side. Stop doubting, but believe." Thomas answered him, saying "My Lord and my God!" Jesus said to him, "Is it because you have seen me that you have believed? How blessed are those who have never seen me and yet have believed!"

The story of 'Doubting Thomas' (as recorded in John 20) is as heart-warming as it is familiar, and yet there is one aspect of this story that, to my mind, just does not fit, but which stands out like a sore thumb for me whenever I hear this story, and it is this: why did the resurrected body of Jesus have holes it?!
