As those around him search for a religious explanation for the man who was born blind - something to justify or make sense of the man's condition in keeping with their understanding of God - Jesus simply (and without a lot of flourish) sets about the work of healing the blind man.
While tasked with doing the work of God, if our efforts are watered down or misallocated by allowing ourselves to get sidelined with endless exegetical debate and indeed fingerpointing, we risk wasting our limited time like the Pharisees in this chapter, or certain social commentators in times of disaster, or even a certain painter.
