I just wanted to announce that I will be running a Live Broadcast on The Streetwise Security Zone on December 23rd, 2008, at noon Eastern time.
I wanted to be able to record this event, but knew that the iGroops Live Broadcast feature doesn't yet have the ability to capture directly. However, I just confirmed by setting up a test broadcast and running Garage Band on the same MacBook I'm broadcasting from that Garage Band can record the session while the broadcast is running. I was worried I would have to have two microphones, at least, if not two computers to do this. This is really cool!
So, if you'd just like to take a part to see how it works, or if you'd really like to learn and participate in this live event where I'll be discussing SAFE WEB BROWSING HABITS, please feel free to register for a free membership to The Streetwise Security Zone at http://www.streetwise-security-zone.com ahead of time.
BTW - Bo and Ryan (or anyone else who's done live broadcasts) if you're able to read this before noon on Tuesday, any tips on running the event would be appreciated.
Cheers,
Scott |

Hi Scott,
Yes, the broadcaster does not do direct recording because there is really no need. MAC or Windows has high-quality software that can record simultaneously where advanced editing, sound merging, and many more features can be used.
Since May of 2008, we have been using the live broadcaster daily while recording in garageband at evcast.com. It is an ideal setup that allows us to produce a professional podcast while inviting live listeners to offer real time feedback via chat -- and they get to see us as well.
By using PC/MAC based software the recording, there is no need to worry about server issues, connectivity issues, flash problems, or browser crashes.
Suggestion for your show: make sure you mute the chime (music note icon) in the broadcaster so your recording does not pick up that sound - and you do not get distracted from live feedback. ________________________________

Is is possible to also record live video from the Broadcast app in GarageBand? Or if not, do you know of any software that does this? |

Garageband is only for audio. There are other methods for capturing video and/or audio. I was trying an eval of Snapz Pro X on the Mac which seems to be able to capture both audio and/or video, which is nice. I don't know if Snapz Pro is available on Windows, or if Camtasia does this too, on Windows.
The biggest problem I have at the moment with recording Live Broadcasts is that the recording software seems to impact the quality of the broadcast for guests. It gets very choppy when you are recording on the same machine you are using for the broadcast audio and/or video.
So, I would recommend, if you can arrange it, to have the recording done from a machine accessing the broadcast as a viewer/listener, not as the broadcaster. You should still be able to record the same stuff, but it won't impact the broadcast.
Hope that helps.
