1. Can we set it up so that members who have access to posting can use only the categories predefined by admin? (Is this already how it works? Or can members currently create their own categories?)
2. Can we have an option to list the blogs under each category in the order we enter them (with a list that we can edit), rather than alphabetically? I'm finding myself trying to creatively name blogs so they will appear in the order I want when they are alphabetized.... but it's not always possible.
Question #2 is really my most urgent question - since I am currently setting up a large variety of blogs in which my members can post, and I need to have it organized.
Thank you! |

1) Members can create their own blog categories. I suggest creating a category called "Member Blogs". Most members will create their blog in that category, for those who don't, as the admin, you can edit one of their posts, and under Global Settings, re-assign it to the proper category.
2) It would seem to me that ordering the Blogs by order in which they were created would be a confusing way to find them for most members, unless you are doing something very unique. You might consider creating a Custom Admin Webpage to use as an "index" of all your blogs...and point your members there, instead of the main blog index page. That way you can have full control over the order, etc.
I'm moving this thread to the "Suggestions" forum-- please post future suggestions there directly, so your suggestions don't get lost among regular support threads. |

Re #1 - thank you.
Re #2 - What I was hoping for is the ability to enter a list of blogs in the order I want them to appear, not for them to appear in the order they are created. I want to be able to type a list of blogs that is logical in terms of subject matter, rather than have everything automatically sorted alphabetically.
Does that make sense? |

Since don't have an option to manipulate at will the order that blogs are listed on the blog "index" page, my suggestion would be to either create your own "index" on a custom admin webpage (as suggested in my last response in this thread), or to include a number in the beginning of the Blog name, which will allow you to specifiy order. If more than 9 in a category, you'll want to start them as 01, 02, 03, etc. You can also trying making more use of blog categories to control order. |

OK, I don't want to invest so much time into this - making an index on a custom webpage, etc. I was just hoping for more control with the categories so my list would make more logical sense. (For example, I'd like to be able to group my blogs according to the age/stage of parenting they relate to, or according to themes.)
Would love to know if/when this might ever happen. Ideally there would be a way to just drag & drop the categories and blogs into whatever order we want! |
