Some of My Favorite Internet Tools
Tuesday, June 3rd @ 8:25 PM
Like most of you, I'm constantly looking for ways to save time and money and have a little fun while I'm at it... Therefore, I'm always on the prowl for the latest, greatest internet tools - especially if they're cheap or free.
Over the years I've collected some favorites that I decided to share with all of you today. As you'll see, they're pretty random but I suppose that's okay. Oh, and another thing... I have absolutely nothing to do with any of these companies (in other words I'm not an affiliate of these websites nor a paid spokesperson, in case you were wondering :>) and I have personally used each and every one of them. I'll start with six of my favorites and add more each week. So here goes with my first official list of:
WEBSITES, SOFTWARE, AND OTHER FUN STUFF I REALLY, REALLY LIKE
1. Skype.com - Okay, okay... you may have already heard of skype, but I'm surprised at how many people haven't. Just do what I say and don't ask questions, okay. Go there. Sign up for their free account - it allows you to call anyone computer-to-computer for free. If you have friends in far away places, make them get a skype account as well. I called my daughter who was living in England for a semester every day, no joke! Absolutely free. Plus, there's lots of other things you can do like hold conference calls, conduct live video chats (My two-year-old granddaughter and i do that all the time!), get a separate number from most cities (want to make prospects think you have "offices in New York City?"), and call landlines most anywhere in the world for about 2 cents per minute. All you need is a microphone and speakers - and if you're computer is fairly new, you may have them already built in. Don't wait another minute!
2. www.scriptlance.com - Looking to outsource work? If so, go here. You'll find reliable - and usually affordable - free lancers to help out with just about anything you have in mind. But still check references carefully and never, never pay until the work is completed to your satisfaction!
3. www.alexa.com - I use this site a lot when I want to check out mine or others' websites - traffic, rankings, etc. Now, they're often not all that accurate, but you'll still be able to get lots of other good information while you're there.
4. www.BensBargains.net - I always check out this site before I purchase any type of electronics (and other stuff as well). Good 'ol Ben scours the World Wide Web and finds sales, coupons, and great deals and then provides the lowdown on who, what, when, where, and how...
5. www.kayak.com - I have tried all of the travel sites - Travelocity, Priceline, Orbitz, etc., etc. Kayak is the best. Best deals. Most airlines. Easy to use. But my friend, Suzanne, told me about another website that she likes a like - and I have yet to use. It's called www.yapta.com. She says it's a travel site that notifies you when rates go down (apparently for destinations you're looking for). Try it at your own risk.
6. www.HowStuffWorks.com - Even if you're not technologically challenged like me, you'll still love this site. The kind - and smart - folks there have a bunch of great and easy-to-understand information on how stuff works... Go figure. Ever want to know how cell phone calls get routed? Or if penguins mate for life? Oh, I just thought of another one... What the heck is a super delegate? Gotta go... I'm on my way there now... Be back soon.
