2..4..6..8.. How Do We All Celebrate??

posted by Dre Cleveland, Group AdministratorSunday, November 20th 2011 @ 9:12 PM (1 ratings)    post viewed 165 times

There are so many ways we can help our students celebrate the successes they create every single day in every single minute.  I've learned some really cute ones over the years, and my current students come up with their own ways to celebrate - which are always welcome.

I will share some of my favorites with you, and please feel free to add your own to the comments section of this post!

1. Slient applause - when you need quiet but you want to show the class that you are excited about what they accomplished, simply have them hold their hands up wiggle their fingers.

2. Kethcup clap - have the students give themselves applause by hitting one hand on top of the other like hitting the bottom of a ketchup bottle.

3. Round of applause - simply clap and make a large circle in the air while you're clapping!

4. Looking good - use the pointer finger from each hand and trace the outline of a mirror.  Then, when your mirror is complete, have the children pretend to check themselves out then say, "Looking Good!"

5. Good Job - This one is a chant.  It goes: "G - Double O - D - J - O - B, Good Job, Good Job (student's name), Good Job Good Job (student's name)."

6. 2,4,6,8 - Another chant.  It goes, "2,4,6,8 who do we appreciate? (student's name 2x)...yeaaahhh (student's name)!"

7. Broken Roller Coaster - This one is a lot of fun for the kids.  You start by using both hands to simulate a roller coaster car moving up a ramp.  Then, when you get to the top, you send your "coaster" down three dips saying "whooo, whooo, whooo...agghhh!"

Silent Yes! Cheer: Everyone mimics Yes! with their mouths closed their hands in the air when they say it then snap their hands to their sides.

This sounds like fun, I could see my students changing this possibly into their preferred rap........interesting.  Thanks for the suggestion for the older students - brush your shirt off - and say yeah with a head shake.  In sign language this would mean - You can't touch this, or I am not messing with this, I'm out of this....

sharon, I always enjoy sitting in your classroom when you begin to sign.  Your students seem to enjoy it as well.  Learning a new language and they don't even recognize it as such. Love it!

I have used some of these signs with students when I taught Kindergarten and 1st grade.  I guess I need to practice them with my 3rd graders.  These are wondrful ways to celebrate students.
