I am a Toastmaster struggling to present my speeches desirous of attaining my CC. I do really admire good speakers like Marquesa Pettway and long to acquire that kind of Public Speaking ability and skill. I have recognized my weakness as Internalising my presentation. I put together lovely speeches and practice listening to myself on tape sand repeating the material over and over sometimes for weeks but when I have to present I still forgets most of what I would like to have said. After every speech I feel I could have done better.

Ms. Pettway continue to shine so that rookies like me could be enlightened and grow courageously.

This was truly inspiring for a new speaker such as myself and I am looking forward to following your footsteps and learning how to be just as dynamic. Here is a Toast and Cheer for the Toastmaster Queen :)

Hi this is Marquesa (the person interviewed)

I have to tell you my toastmasters foundation has been so incredibly valuable in the professional speaking world. I'm crafting a keynote now and after writing so many toastmaster speeches and then professional speeches the process is easier. I've also been inspired by our president elect, Mr. Obama, for so many reasons, as a speaker, he really makes you want to inspire your audience from the inside out. Every speech he delivers sets a tone within, his words make you think, his body language makes you take notice and his sincerity makes you care.

I'm presenting my keynote this Friday in Dallas, Texas and my goal is the touch the audience Obama's way while using all my toastmaster skills mixed with my professional speaking business knowledge.

Episode #42: Interview with Jane Atkinson on Speaking for Cash

Jane has been helping speakers catapult their businesses for more than 18 years.  As a former speaker's agent, she has represented numerous speakers who have vaulted to the top 3% of the industry including Vince Poscente, Peter Legge and Joe Calloway (all CSP/CPAE's**).

In Jane's role as an agent, she often took speakers from 0 to 80 engagements per year at very high fees. What was her secret? Her ability to choose speakers with high levels of talent (no amount of marketing can overcome a mediocre speech), combined with her marketing formula. Jane worked with them to develop focused and effective marketing materials and then implemented a consistent, long term sales and marketing strategy.

Jane Atkinson is a great get. Her book is out of stock on Amazon today though. Bummer. Great job guys.

Excellent interview with Jane Atkinson.  She sure does have her act together.  No generic blather from this lady.  Answered Bo's and Ryan's questions directly (i.e. $1,500 mimimum speaking fee can serve as a guide to gauging your position as a bona fide professional speaker.

Also, the speaker has to bring somethisng to the table valuable enough that someone is willing to pay money to hear it.  Can't just be smooth delivery...has to have sellable content.
